A good friend mentioned her collection of monochrome art, so I thought I'd give that a go. This bicycle was parked outside a restaurant in Rome, and it was such a classic we had to get a photo. My husband captured it well, but I cropped it for this composition.

Uh-NEM-uh-nee (I know, it sounds just like where Nemo lives!)
1. any of various plants belonging to the genus Anemone, of the buttercup family, having petallike sepals and including several wild species with white flowers as well as others cultivated for their showy flowers in a variety of colors.

"Liliceae Tulipa"

I chose this composition because I love seeing inside the flower from above. I also enjoyed trying to replicate the texture through paint.

Liliceae Tulipa was one of three pieces accepted into the 5th Annual 12 Buy 12 Art Exhibit at the Austin Art Space Gallery & Studios in Austin, TX. The show runs from December 1-21, and I will be attending the artists' reception on Saturday, December 5th!

"Sunflower" Day 6 (completed)

Oil on Canvas 48" X 36" Commissioned - $400 SOLD -

Due to the large size of this piece, and the time involved, I decided to document the process. Day one was just measuring and sketching, and day two was meant to be only for background, but I found my groove and only stopped when it became too dark to see. This was commissioned by my landscaper as a gift to his wife, who loves sunflowers!

This weekend I traveled up to Cortez, Colorado to the 12 Hours of Mesa Verde mountain bike race. I supported my husband while he raced solo on his single speed mountain bike. He completed 7 laps (15 miles each) for a grand total of 105 miles, landing him 5th place out of 20 in his class! Needless to say I didn't paint while I was gone, but here's what I did on Wednesday and Thursday. Due to the large size of this piece, (48" X 36") and the time involved, I decided I am going to document the process. Day one was just measuring and sketching, and day two was meant to be only for background, but I found my groove and only stopped when it became too dark to see.

Update

I am sorry that I have been delinquent in my painting, but my focus has been derailed. I am excited to say that I've been commissioned to do a rather large piece for my favorite landscaper, who has always offered great support for my works in progress as he peered at them through the window. At the same time I have been working with a shop owner in Colshester, Connecticut who has agreed to sell two of my previously completed pieces. Feast or Famine.

Wow, did I take a break or what? I was sick for awhile and I tried to paint anyway, but it just wasn't happening. The one I started wasn't looking quite right, so I took a break and started this one when I was feeling better. Now I am going to go back and work on the other piece a bit more and post it soon!

"The Lovers"

My husband picked out ths Murano glass statue in venice, Italy.
It has beautiful color striations in it, and I love the elegant lines. It was challenging, but fun to paint.

I had the most fun painting the shapes of these reflections! I just enjoyed the subject, as I also enjoy a good martini.
