"Dog Fighting is Warped"

Charcoal on paper 17.5" X 20.5" $500

This piece won the Patron's Mention award in the "Motion" art contest on www.ebsq.com

This was an assigned piece, and it really forced me to experiment with the darker side of art. I was asked to use a warped grid superimposed onto a b & w photo, then recreate the images using charcoal on paper in some of the grid areas, but adjust them to match the contours of the warped sections. I had just read an article in Forbes that really conveyed the visciousness and horrificness of dog fighting, and it profoundly affected me. The distorted nature of this project really lent itself to portraying those feelings. It ain't no floral!

This piece was a class assignment, and it really forced me to experiment with the darker side of art. We were asked to bring some black and white photos, and I had just read this article in Forbes about dog fighting. The project was to create a warped grid and superimpose it onto a photo, then recreate the images in some of the grid areas, but adjusting them to match the contours of the warped sections. The article really conveyed the visciousness and horrificness of dog fghting, and profoundly affected me. The nature of this project really lent itself to portraying those feelings.
